Let me just start by saying "Never ever cloak
your web pages!"
Cloaking is when your web site is set up in such a way
that search engine spiders are "served" different
pages than the ones that are served to real visitors.
This is a very sneaky bit of programming that has fallen
in out-of-favor in the last few years.
It works like this: special software is used to identify
the search engine spiders user agent or IP address -- the
second method being a bit more popular -- and then having
the server dish up different pages based on whether the
request is from a search engine spider or a person's Web
browser.
Supporters of cloaking claim that cloaking is useful to
absolutely optimized web page content for spiders.
However anti-cloaking critics claim that cloaking is an
easy way to misrepresent site content; for example feeding
a search engine spider a special page is designed to get
the site hits for Brittany Spears when in reality the site
really is all about golf tips.
The bottom line here is that you take the risk when you
use search engine cloaking.
Does it work absolutely, but if one of your competitors
happens to be a bit snoopy and find out the year "cheating
he may report you to the search engines.
The end result is that your web site could be banned --
forever.
My recommendation is that getting legitimate search engine
traffic is just too easy to take the risk.
Best of luck, and see you at the top!
